If you are looking for the perfect cocktail with the most perfect mood, then you need to head to Orchid in Aberdeen for the perfect Ambience.
I was lucky enough to be invited along to Orchid to try a few of their new cocktails that will be launching this Season. When it comes to having a few drinks in town, I have my usual bars that I love to sit and sip on a nice chilled glass of something sweet. I have never stepped in to Orchid until that night and let me tell you, it will not be the last time that I step foot in there.
Greeted by the team, we were told about all their amazing creations and it was amazing how you could just feel the passion that comes from each member of the team. So much love for what they do. The energy of their excitement went in to their cocktails and we were lucky enough to be the first members of the public to try some of them.
After we sat and sipped on these lovely cocktails, we were escorted to the bar area where we pulled up a front row seat on for a lesson in cocktails. Not only did we get a history lesson in the are of cocktail making, a few of us even got to head on up behind the bar to mix a few drinks. We got to make a Pink Orchid - my favourite drink of the whole evening. This drink has been on the menu since Orchid opened in 2009. It is served in a frozen glass and it has the most smooth taste I have ever experienced. Created with Vanilla Vodka, Raspberry Liqueur, Cranberry Juice, Lime Juice, Sugar Syrup and Egg White.
Normally when I go out for drinks and I like the sound of a cocktail that has egg white, I always ask for it to be made without the egg. The only reason for it is that I didn't like the idea of it. I really wish I never asked it to be removed. The egg white gives the drink a velvety finish and it is just beautiful.
After sipping on Pink Orchids, we got to create our own concoction. The concoction that our group made had coconut, peach and strawberry in it and we won the little competition that Orchid ran that night for creating the best cocktail. We all got to go home with a mini bottle of Porters Gin.
At the end, they brought out cheese boards. So all in all, it was a superb night. Alcohol and cheese! Perfect.
Orchid discussed how they plan on supporting other bars in the area by hosting something that is similar to a bar crawl... but cooler. The idea of the crawl is that you choose one of the drinks from the new menu and you receive a coloured badge that is exclusive to that particular drink. Then you go off to the bar that is associated with that drink on the menu and take a selfie. Once you have collected all 8 badges and have taken all 8 selfies then Orchid will do something special for you as a Thank You for supporting them. The plan might change a little because it is a work in process, but I think it is a great idea because it means that all the bars are working together to support each other. Which is what this City needs at the moment.
The best bit of knowledge that I walked away with from this event though, was the fact that they are working with Deliveroo. Which means... you can order cocktails from the comfort of your own home and have them delivered to you! How glamorous. Sipping cocktails in your PJs. Amazing.
