If you were to know me - and I mean truly know me - you would probably think that I am a very happy person which a bubbly personality. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am those things but I also have a lot going on on the inside too.
Throughout my life I have always painted a smile on my face no matter what because I didn’t want anyone to worry about me. I believe by acting this way led me down a dark path that made me the most miserable person I have ever been. I didn’t confront my issues and deal with them, I just locked them away and let them rot. After this path of misery, I decided to put myself first and do something about it. Now I am in such a better place, I guess you could say both mentally and literally.
I left the job I was in - which was a really hard decision - took some time out from the world and focused on me for once. Here is a list of tasks that I do on a daily basis that helps keep my mind healthy.
TALK IT OUT - If I have an issue with something, I try not to let myself bottle it up like I would of before. So now I come home and vent to E about the issue or quickly ping a Whatsapp message over to my Girls. If I have an issue with a certain person, I try my hardest to talk to them about it but I am still wary that I might hurt their feelings. But that is when I remember they have hurt my feelings and that is why I have an issue, so I just want to talk about it.
MUSIC - Music is a big part of my life and I love to start my day with an amazing playlist that will make me smile from ear to ear. There will always be a lot of Beyoncé but at the moment I am really enjoying early 00s R&B again. Every day I amaze myself with how I can still remember the words to most of the hits. Sometimes I can even remember the dance routines but have to stop myself from reaching for the stars. If you don’t understand that reference, I will feel old.
READ - I am quite a slow reader in the sense that I need the book to be gripping all the way through because as soon as it starts to slow down, so do I. Then I tend to put the book down and it will take me a while to pick the book back up. I love reading life stories of people who have worked in the fashion industry at the moment as I find that industry so fascinating. So if you have any recommendations, comment below.
EXERCISE - I am lucky that in my job I am really quite active because I am always on my feet running back and fore. It is easy to come home and just drop myself down on the sofa and just veg for the rest of the night, so I use my Activity app and monitor my steps and how many minutes I have exercised for the day.
WATER - When it comes to drinks, I have never really been one to reach out for a bottle of something fizzy. I tend to drink fruit juices (not from concentrate) or water. Oh, and loads of tea. Can’t forget that. Can’t live without a good cup of tea. Some days I will realise that all I have drank that day is tea, so I am not giving my body the hydration it needs. So I am making more of an effort to drink water throughout the day.
FOOD - Eat well - this is something that I still need to get better at, but I am trying. Planning my meals out would probably benefit me in both my diet and with my bank balance. I get in to such a habit of just buying my lunches when I am working and that just adds up.
SOCIALISE - Actually going out to meet my friends, rather than sitting in the house moping about being bored. It doesn’t have to involve money. Just nip round with some home baked goodies and have a cup of tea and a good natter. Then you can talk about any issues that is going on - see above *wink*. Obviously this might be a bit tricky to do every single day, but you never know there could be someone that you work with or even a neighbour that needs someone to talk to. It’s always good to share - but that doesn’t mean you have to share your cake!
That is just a wee list of things that I am concentrating on to help with my mental health and it has really helped me get off that dark path.
What I want to know, is what you do on daily basis that helps you keep a clear mind.
