Halloween is just round the corner, the most magical time of the year and I am excited. I have planned what sweet treats I am going to bake, the theme in which I am going to decorate my house for the party I throw every year, and I even know which costume I going to wear. Even with all this planning, it got me thinking…
There is always someone at the party who “claims” they didn’t have time to create a costume because of x, y and z reasons. But, there is always something you can create as long as you have some makeup.
The Cheshire Cat is one of my favourite characters in history – both literature and movies because I feel like he is misunderstood. Some people may view him as evil because of that ominous grin, and I guess he does mislead Alice on a few occasions, but I think that he is just a cool outsider.
Now here is the first step on how I created this look, after all “Every adventure requires a first step.”
For the base, I just used the foundation and concealer that I use on a daily basis. I was tempted to start with a white base but I changed my mind, as I wanted quite a soft look.
The hot pink CYO Blush in shade “Unfiltered” is highly pigmented and easy to blend, so this was the perfect product to use for the eyes. To deepen the eye and give it more of that iconic purple tone that the Cheshire Cat features, I used the purple pans from the “Brights” NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette. Using a fluffy brush to blend it up to my brow bone.
Instead of reaching for my normal bronzer to contour, I decided to contour my face using more of the CYO Blush. This definitely felt a little strange. I occasionally wear bright coloured eye shadow for work, so I am used to rocking that, but to sculpt my face using a hot pink blush? Now, that is new.
I also filled in my eyebrows with the purple and pink eye shadows from the NYX palette and pink to the tip of my nose to start working on my cat nose.
With the cat nose complete, I needed to start working on that special grin. Naturally I have chubby cheeks and dimples, so I wanted to make sure that when I smiled, the Cheshire Cat grin wasn’t crooked. I went in with the White Precision Colour Kohl Eyeliner from Collection and sketched the outline on that unforgettable smile.
When I was happy with the shape of the grin and teeth, I then sketched in the outline of the teeth with Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner from Collection in black. Don’t worry though, this is removable with makeup remover or wipes – there was a moment of panic when I realised I was painting a black grin on my face and was worried that I was going to rock this look for the next 24 hours. But then I remembered that it was eyeliner and not a permanent marker.
To brighten the teeth, the Fast Stroke Eyeliner from Collection in white is just perfect. The black Fast Stroke Eyeliner from Collection is actually my go-to liquid eyeliner and it only costs £2.99.
Creating this look was so much fun, because like I said at the beginning, Halloween is the most magical time of the year and I love creating unique looks. So working with Boots to create this Fierce Feline look was right up my street.
Here is some more inspiration for you from Boots.
