A few months in to this year, I decided to finally take the leap and start my YouTube channel.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I wouldn’t start calling myself a YouTuber – but I have posted a few videos over on my channel to give it a try. A few of my friends kept giving me pep talks on why I should do it and I finally bit the bullet, recorded a First Impressions video and clicked submit.
I was so nervous about the responses and what people thought of me. It is easy to try and be yourself why you are sitting behind a computer screen and you just type away. No one can see what you are wearing; what your make up looks like; if you have washed your hair that day or not. Easy. Whereas, when I film my videos I feel the need to double check that my hair looks fine on camera and that my make up looks okay. One thing I don’t mind about showing is my personality.
I love to think that I have a good sense of humour with a sarcastic nature – blame my father - and I try to apply that to my writing. Sometimes I worry that I might come across as rude in my writing, so by filming videos for YouTube I can show my personality a little more.
The responses that I have had so far have been so lovely. Comments saying that they love how down to earth or real I am. I really appreciate that because that is what I am trying to do. Be me.
Whilst editing the footage I always laugh at myself. I am aware of how animated I am when I talk because I use my hands a lot. What I didn’t realise is that I pull some very unusual faces when I am talking. Jesus. Scary stuff. Yet, I do not feel pressured to remove those moments or edit out mistakes too much because I want to be real and connect with others on a personal level.
I am enjoying it and I want to do more. Just have to find more time to create them. So stay tuned for more and don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss out.
Do you love YouTubers? If so, what do you love?
