Matcha Green Tea from Teapigs...
The lovely people at Teapigs contacted me about their powdered Matcha Green Tea and they wondered if I would love to try it, and as someone who loves a good cup of tea, I couldn't turn it down.
The Modern Matcha Tea Kit* (£35) contains: 30g tin of Teapigs matcha green tea, electric hand held whisk, a Teapigs shot glass, a cute little badge and a detailed leaflet all about the matcha green tea.
Teapigs matcha tea won the 2014 Healthy Awards for Best Slimming and Fitness category and I couldn't agree more with that title. Matcha green tea claims to give you more energy - I heard someone say that Samurai's drank it before battle... but I have no proof of that. Matcha green tea has been served in the Japanese tea ceremony for almost 900 years and monks drink matcha green tea to help keep them alert and energised throughout their day.
When I first received this kit I was so excited to give it a try. Here are some of the different ways I tried the powder:
Hot Drink - I decided to try it as a hot drink first and I had very mixed feelings about it. I used the measuring spoon and put half a measurement into a mug and then I half filled the mug with hot water. I used the whisk to make sure there were no power lumps at the bottom and then I topped up the rest of the mug. I read a few reviews online being slightly negative about the whisk spraying the hot water everywhere - but that will only happen if you overfill the mug and pull the whisk out. So be careful when handling hot water. At first, the smell of the tea reminded me of cut grass that has been sitting out for a few days. But when I drank the tea, I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't have that taste to go along with the scent. I really enjoy drinking the matcha green tea in the morning to help wake me up.
Shot - Same measurement as before, I have tried this shot with warm and cold water - cold it better if I am honest. But I whisked up the tea and knocked it back in the mornings when I don't have time to sit and enjoy a cup of it.
Smoothie - This is a good way to consume the matcha green tea if you don't particularly like the smell or taste of it. I have mixed the matcha green tea with different types of fruit (and vegetables) using both a half measurement and a full one. It just gives your smoothie an extra kick.
There are other ways of having the matcha green tea and on the Teapigs website, they have some really good ideas - even ice cream.
A lot of other matcha green tea drinkers agree that they feel more energised and that is has helped them loose weight a little faster through a healthy diet and lifestyle. I agree that I feel more energised and I feel less bloated than before - but that could also be because I am watching what I eat lately.
Overall, I would highly recommend this to people who need that extra kick in the morning and want to be more cautious about their health.
Have you tried Matcha Tea? If so, do you love it or hate it?
