Now. Cinderella’s castle is already occupied, and I highly doubt the Queen would let us move into the palace, and I definitely don’t want to end up like the old woman living in the boot. So I guess I better start looking for another house to call my home.
At the age of 21, I bought my flat with my boyfriend – who is now my husband – and it was so exciting to have our own place that we could decorate however we choose. The building is an ex-council building, so the flats are so spacious and cosy with tons of storage already built in – so everything that you would want from your house. We have been here for nearly 8 years and we are ready to find our next home, preferably one with our own front door and a garden.
This flat holds so many amazing memories and we learned a lot about each other when it came down to decorating. E quickly learned that I was a control freak who likes to micro manage everything. I would give him a set of IKEA drawers to build, but I would overlook it and give him notes as he went. If he paused for more than two seconds, I would huff and take over the task. This has never changed, and will never change. I just can’t help it.
This wasn’t the only thing that was in our house that we both didn’t like but thought the other one liked it – if that makes sense. So we went round the house and cleared out any of the shite that we have accumulated over the years.
When it comes to style, I am most definitely a maximalist. I love to decorate with nick-knacks and ornaments from our travels, and our walls have some unique artwork from small artists and some very Pinterest worthy prints that I found online. I love a house with character. For our next home, we really want higher ceilings and perhaps wooden floors. A garden is a must so that we can have BBQs and hopefully a wee dog. But I would love a Pinterest worthy home.
Speaking of Pinterest, like most humans, I love to scroll through all the pins and find inspiration for my next home because I want to get my hands dirty and REALLY decorate. With this flat, we didn’t do anything apart from touching up the paintwork. That’s it. But I want to play with colour and print on the walls and floors. These are my favourite Pinterest finds.
I think you will agree that I love the colour green...
I love colour, prints and unique objects that really make a house a home. I just hope we find a house where we can do these things so I can literally live in a Pinterest worthy home.
Where do you find your home inspiration?
