October is the one time of year that we can wear a mask, hide our identity and become someone else for the night – unless you are in to that on a daily basis, then hey! What ever floats your boat, no judgement here.
October is also the month where we need to show our awareness for something else that isn’t orange and black. The time has come to start showing our support for our bust and for breast cancer awareness. The little pink bow is being pinned to the lapels of people who want to show their support for the cause, and I want to give you some boob loving advice because everyone should “Love Thy Bust”.

The beautiful Georgina Horne (from “Fuller Figure, Fuller Bust”) and Leyah Shanks (from “I am Leyah Shanks”) have worked together with Simply Be to help create the “Love Thy Bust” campaign. This campaign is full on lingerie advice on finding the right style of bra for your bust, the right fit and common bra fitting problems.

Here are some bra rules that I have picked up along the way, some might be nonsense but there are some that I live by.
  1. Rest Your Chest – You should wear a non-wired bra at least once a week to give your breasts a rest from the awful invention that is the underwire.
  2. Hand Wash Only – Machine-washing your bras not only gives your bras a shorter life span, it can also damage your washing machine if that wire gets loose. You can get special bra bags for the washing machine that keeps your bras safe, but I believe that hand washing is better.
  3. Wash Them Often – Bras can hold more bacteria than knickers. So make sure you change (and wash) your bras often.

When it comes to fittings:
  1. Back Strap – Your back strap should not curl – if it does, it is too tight. Your back strap should sit flush and tight – but not too tight that it hurts.
  2. Should straps – Your shoulder straps should not dig in. If they do dig down in to your shoulders then your band size is too small.
  3. Centre Panel – The centre panel should sit flat against your breastbone.
  4. Comfort – Probably the most important one. You should be able to sit down and breathe comfortably in a good fitting bra. You should also be able to run a finger under the bra all the way round. This is to make sure your lungs can expand easily.

 On a more serious note:
There are different causes of lumps on your breasts, some of these can include: cysts, abscess, pimples and even ingrown hairs (that is right ladies, you can get hairs on your breasts and nipples. Such a lovely thought, I know). It is recommended that you check your breasts and the surrounding breast tissue frequently for any lumps and bumps that have not been there before. If your find anything that concerns you, then you should contact your Doctor as soon as possible.
Do you check yours?
